Youth INC held its 11th Annual State of the Market Investors Conference on June 13, 2018 at The Metropolitan Club in New York City. More than 300 luminaries from the financial and business communities convened to discuss a range of topics including The Political Landscape, Impact Investing; Cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin; Cyber Risks; and LP Partner Perspectives.
Adena Friedman, CEO of Nasdaq kicked off the conference in a conversation with Carlyle co-founder, David Rubenstein, for whom she worked prior to leading Nasdaq. Their informal keynote discussion revolved around her role in elevating Nasdaq to a global exchange therefore becoming an influencer on the world stage. She also addressed her place as a female executive in the global, financial space, noting that she was often one of the few women in the room. Because of that she expressed her intent to empower her own staff.
TIAA President and CEO, Roger Ferguson followed, providing perspective on President Trump’s trade policy. He expressed concern that the implications of new tariffs could lead to a direct impact on the checkbooks of everyday American workers, a subject few had addressed.
Several informative panels rounded out the full day at The Metropolitan Club. Especially interesting was a discussion between Anthony Scaramucci, Founder, SkyBridge Capital, and Steve Rattner, Chairman and CEO, Willett Advisors. Rebecca Jarvis, ABC News moderated the exchange which touched upon how the current Trump Administration leverages the “art of the deal.” On one side, Scaramucci indicated that the current administration needs to deal with debt and deal with China. On the other side, Rattner showed how administration policies delegitimized and damaged our relationships with foreign powers.
Presenting sponsor Nuveen led the vanguard of more than two dozen corporate sponsors, including returning sponsors Marsh, Scotiabank, Ropes & Gray, Alvarez & Marsal and more, to support this leadership conference.
